You’re starting a new project. You want to capture all the relevant material and outcomes, in a clean, neat and navigable structure. How to organize it in your computer? Which folder structure is appropriate?

The ‘project’ can be almost anything: your PhD thesis, an online course, a data science project, a commercial testing program… anything that uses data and generates an outcome.

After years of trial-and-error in different contexts, I have settled a flexible and generalizable folder structure that is at the same time easy to navigate and understand (by me anyway!).

You can have a look at the one I use, and read why. You can even download the entire folder and unzip it to your computer to use as template. Each of the 3 folders (and their subfolders) are explained in detail, with even some examples. Check it out, and use as inspiration or simply dowload to start populating with files and get your project running.

My new rule is: the image will have nothing to do with the post!
